Harmonic distortion
– Harmonic distortion adds harmonics to a signal
– A series of harmonics is superimposed on the original signal
– Harmonics can be detected with suitable equipment
– Total Harmonics Distortion (THD) is the ratio of harmonics to the fundamental
– THD can be expressed in dB or percentage
Distortionmeter instrument
– A distortionmeter is a levelmeter with two switchable parallel circuits
– The first circuit measures the total signal at the output of a system
– The second circuit is a high pass filter that removes the fundamental frequency
– The output of the filter is measured as a percentage of the fundamental
– The reported value is the distortion value
